Hayle is a peaceful town built along the banks of
the Hayle estuary. Hayle is famous for its beaches and dunes known
as Hayle Towans. The beaches stretch for 5 miles and a secluded
spot is always just minutes away.
The coastline around Hayle is both hauntingly beautiful and varied.
There are marshes, dunes and many pretty walks to enjoy. Nearby
are the spectacularly tall cliffs known as 'Hells Mouth'.
The lighthouse of Godrevy Head lies in a site of special scientific
interest and its photogenic qualities may be familiar to viewers
of such television programmes as Wycliffe. The novelist Virginia
Woolf loved this area and it provided the inspiration for her famous
novel "To The Lighthouse". The coastline here and on the Land's
End peninsula provides some of the best surfing to be found in the
area.
Meanwhile the tranquil Hayle estuary provides a haven for many
types of wildlife. Puffins, kittiwakes, guillemots, lapwings, choughs,
oystercatchers, starfish, grey seals, lobsters, jellyfish, badgers,
foxes and of course many types of gulls make up some of the vast
variety of animals found in Cornwall.
