Helston is the main market town on the Lizard Peninsula and is
possibly best known for the yearly event of the Furry Dance (or
Floral Dance).
Each May the town is closed to traffic for a day and the streets are filled
with local people continuing the ancient tradition of dancing in
costume from one end of the town to the other.
The music of the dance has been used by many (famously by Terry
Wogan!) and has even been sampled in a rave record. It will instantly
seem familiar to first time visitors. |

The day is also celebrated with a market and a fair.
Locals and visitors often drop into the Blue Anchor Inn on Coinagehall
Street during the day to sample the award winning local ale! |
